The Finish Line
The Finish Line
Aug 5, We arrive home in Langley with all our friends and family.
Hello Everyone! As you may have noticed, our blog has had some major problems as of late. It was a problem with the entire site, not just our entries, and for a while we had lost all our blogs we had written so far! We got all our blogs back, however, and are now able to add our last few entries to complete the ensemble! So we are sorry about the delay, but things could have been a lot worse!!! So we are home now!! We got home on August 5th (we began our journey on May 6 so it took [View Full Entry]

Anxiously waiting...
Greetings
The party!

We were so excited to see the “Welcome To BC” border!!! It was such an amazing feeling, we were giddy and amazed and were looking at the land around us like it the most fascinating thing we had ever seen. We are so excited to be almost home!!!!! Our first night in BC we stayed in an abandoned lot. The owner of the lot ended up pulling up to us in his quad and giving us shit for camping without his permission. It was the first time all trip we had not been warmly welcomed by the locals..and it was [View Full Entry]

A welcome tree
One of the first things we saw when we came into Alberta was a sign on a gas station store that read “Need chaps??” - yes, this is what Alberta was all about; big trucks, beef and cowboys! We spent our first night in Medicine Hat where we were to meet my wonderful friend Erin, who was flying out to see us. We stayed with her cousin in Medicine Hat and had a great few days of girl talk, lake-ing (Brad gave me a bleeding nose during keep-away) and doing the put-put. We had great dinners all our nights there [View Full Entry]

Our remaining ride from Manitoba to Winnipeg went quickly with flat roads and mild winds. We think we must have gotten lucky in the prairies because we had heard so many horror stories about the wind but hadn’t really experienced its wrath. So we felt very lucky when our first very windy experience was with a tail wind!!! The day we made it into Saskatchewan was an average-weathered day and we made it to our destination in the early afternoon. At about the same time, a huge tailwind came our way. We were told in Kenora that if there is a [View Full Entry]

Taking a rest
Our Regina host...Ryan!
What can I get for you?

It had been 21 days since Montreal, over 2200 km, and we had only taken one day off. And it was all in the name of Canada Day. As if crossing the country via bicycle wasn’t enough of a Canada celebration, we wanted to be in Kenora for July 1st . On Canada Day morning, there was a beautiful sunrise to the East and some suspicious grey clouds to the West. We only had 50 km into Kenora, but we got rained on pretty hard so after arriving in Kenora and weaving through town with ice blocks for feet we [View Full Entry]

“Ontario, yours to explore.” This is Ontario’s slogan. We have decided that this slogan was written by Toronto-ians who did not want to leave the city. They know there is not a whole lot to see up in the north, so they want us to explore it, not them. They know its vast, and a long distance between “cities.” Our time in Ontario started in Ottawa. We got in early, stayed in a hostel, and had most of the day to explore. It is set up great for tourists, but there was way too much to see in the time [View Full Entry]

Montreal!! We scanned the addresses of narrow, tall buildings decorated with clotheslines until we spotted my Auntie Claude flagging us down on the side of the road. A few moments later my Antie Sylvie came running down the road, having come home from work. It' was awesome to see my Aunties and great to be back in Montreal! We were spoiled with some Atlantic salmon for dinner that night and bored my family with our newly aquired biking stories. The next day we ate breakfast while rocking out to "Candyshop" (my aunt is pretty hip, what can I say) before [View Full Entry]

Some car show
Montreal! oui!
The take-down

We set off from our comfortable hostel in Quebec city on our less comfortable bike seats for a day of riding. It was an awesome day with no hills and Brad was very happy to reach a new record for average speed over the course of our day; 23.2 BIG kms. We were kicking ass so much we decided that maybe we'd conquer even more than our typical 100kms...and then the rain came. And it meant buisness. Sheet lightening flashed like we were in a photoshoot, the lightening looking like camera flashes and the streets were flooded quicker than we [View Full Entry]

My saddest sad face, fixing a tire.
Fredericton was very good to us. We washed ourselves, and our sleeping bags, and everything felt very nice as we climbed out of town. We were off, 500km to Quebec city. About 70 km into our first day out of Fredericton, at precisely the same time as it started to poor with rain, I hit a rock, that popped my innertube, and wrecked my tire as well. We have lots of spare tubes, and a spare tire as well, so it didnt slow us down too much. We finished in Woodstock, where we had originally planned. We camped under a [View Full Entry]

To Fredericton Brad and Treena From Charlottetown PEI, to here in Fredericton has been our most consistent biking of the trip. We are consisitently biking 100km day after day, and are now giving ourselves a break. Today is the first day we have had off since we started cycling again from Stephenville. From Charlottetown we rode 60km to the Confederation Bridge. Bikes are not allowed on the bridge, so we had to be shuttled across. There is a toll booth, cameras, traffic workers who think they are cops, its not one of [View Full Entry]
