Our travels over the years have often sought out those places that we haven't yet experienced. We have loved chasing new places, but there is a change underway. We continue to enjoy experiencing other cultures along with their food, beverages, history and ways of life but now, having a little more freedom, we will also make more effort to seek out out such things as music events and festivals, particular natural attractions that we have missed and places where we can better appreciate the history of a place and its people.
The attraction of the road less travelled and the place less visited hasn't diminished but we have resolved not to dismiss places purely on the basis of “been there, done that”. Returning to places we've enjoyed in the past, to see how they've changed, will be included in our agenda. We know that, because we have changed and places have changed, a return visit will be different – for better or worse.
Camping in tents will no longer be the default and more B&Bs or similar will be used. For travel in Australia, the swag may still come out where necessary but the tray-back camper on the ute is now our preferred accommodation.
Getting away for long periods when we can has been our aim. There will still be some of that but the pull of the grandkids is strong and there are busy lives to live as well. Perhaps shorter trips and maybe more of them.
Our blogs let those interested know what we are doing, pass on some of our experiences for those who may be considering similar things and, importantly for us, help us to remember great times in our lives. It would be good to catch up with you along the way.
